Malaysians in Motion

Earlier today I attended a luncheon at the Royal Selangor Golf Club, hosted by my friend and former High Court judge Dato Syed Ahmad Idid, to bid farewell and God-speed to a mutual friend and fellow mariner Capt. Abdul Ghani Ishak. Capt Ghani, together with his lovely wife Alison and their 3-year-old son Adrian, will start their 30-month adventure of a lifetime on a five-leg journey starting May 1 by a 4WD vehicle overland across 5 continents. They will begin from London and travel across Europe, Africa, North and South America, Australia and Asia. They expect to finish the journey in October 2010. (Read Friday 28th March NST online report of the expedition, here).

The family, which calls itself Malaysians in Motion, has bought and fitted a Nissan Patrol 4x4 with the necessary equipment as they intend to cook on their own and sleep outdoors."We have named our vehicle 'Tuah', after the legendary Malay warrior, and of course, it also means luck," says Capt Ghani.

The expedition has the support of Tourism Malaysia. Rainforest Challenge has also stepped in as a sponsor, but the expedition is largely self-funded. Capt. Ghani says he welcomes more sponsors from Malaysia.

Malaysians can keep track of this plucky family's progress via their website:

  1. Dear YA,

It was a good lunch and good to catch Capt. Ghani before his big long trip around the world. He has conquered the seas during his younger days and now the land will be seeing his trail. May Allah bless him and family with strength, good health and safety throughout the trip.

  2. Dear Capt Ghani,

I wish you success in your great adventure. It certainly takes men of courage, vision and passion to fulfill this journey of a lifetime.

My prayers remain with you and your family.

Certainly this long haul will be a great learning opportunity for mankind and hopefully the leaders of this nation will have the wisdom to tap on your experiences for the greater learning enrichment of all Malaysians.

    God Bless.

  3. God speed and make Malaysia proud. Best wishes.

  4. Awesome! I hope Capt Ghani, Alison and Adrian will pass through my corner of the globe. Shall be looking out for them.

Godbless and Godspeed, Malaysians in Motion! :)

  5. Wouldn't it be more worthwhile to sponsor the education of one or two underprivilege child around your neighbourhood

  6. Capt Ghani, Alison & Adrian will soon begin the adventure of a lifetime, my wife & I were delighted to meet up with them recently too, and wished them "bon voyage"; the first leg of their adventure will take them around Europe. you can 'travel with them' via the Internet, please go to their web site to get more information:

They have several sponsors but of course need more generous companies and individuals to help, they are also very kindly helping a Malaysian charity 'Petpositive'

Let's all lend our full support to Ghani, Alison & Adrian, be it moral, spiritual, financial or material.

  7. Captain,
I would like to wish Captain Ghani and family a successful journey. It will be great experiential learning for his son.
Will be folowing his progress on his website. I have such a dream too but I definitely can't afford it. Seeing him do it successfully will be good enough for me.

  8. Tuan,

I've been working in the same outfit as he was last time but never had the previllage of knowing him personnaly. I've known severally people and infact one of my former boss use to work under his leadership. all that i heard about him is good words and i'm indeed the losing one. now that i'm in houston, texas and by any chance captain's ghani and family made it to houston i would want to offer them shelter before continuing their journey. i'm contactable at +1 832 615 2015.
